Democratic and participatory governance models in the social economy and sustainability in the circular economy

Studying promising democratic governance models for the circular economy

This project aims to identify and recognize democratic and participatory governance models and mechanisms in social economy enterprises (SEEs) that promote sustainability in the circular economy.

To date, very few empirical studies have focused on the contribution, conditions, and modalities of democratic, participatory, and inclusive governance as a lever for the implementation of circular economy systems. In fact, work carried out by Territoires innovants en économie sociale et solidaire (TIESS) in recent years on circular business models in the social economy increasingly emphasizes the need for a better understanding of promising democratic and participatory governance models.

This study is part of a project led by TIESS for the past five years, and aims to position and deploy the social economy as a player in a sustainable circular economy. The four members of the team are also participating in an international research network on the social economy and circular economy currently being set up on the initiative of the team’s researchers.
